How Iodine Promotes Optimal Wellness

American's iodine intake has decreased by 50% in the last 30 years, 83% in the last 100 years. To compare us to other industrialized countries, an average citizen in Japan acquires approximately 12 mg/a day. In America, we on average consume .24 mg. Our thyroid gland depends on iodine for hormone production. A majority of our iodine intake accumulates in the thyroid. Iodine is found 2nd most abundantly in the ovaries. The thyroid, with the help of iodine, creates hormones that help regulate nearly every organ system, including bone & brain development, fertility, gut absorption, our metabolic rate, & much more. When we are deficient in iodine, other halogens (toxins) bind to the receptor sites of the missing iodine. When our thyroid takes such as assault, it cannot produce enough of the appropriate hormones, and therefore our system begins to malfunction.

Iodine is also an extremely powerful detoxer. With just one supplemental dose of iodine, flouride excretion increases by 78%! It contains anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral properties. Our entire blood volume goes through our thyroid every 17 mins, & when there is adequate iodine, it is cleansed of nearly all pathogens. You can see where, if we are deficient in iodine, this can lead to numerous illnesses. Iodine is the only detox agent that pulls flouride from our pineal gland.

Everyone can greatly enhance their well-being by supplementing with iodine. Liquid non- organic iodine is recommended (Nascent is gentle enough for children). At least 12 mg/day for adults to replenish your body with this extremely important mineral. To reverse chronic illness, you may want to consider working your way up to 50 mg/day for at least 3 months, and then a maintenance dose of 6-12 mg/day. Be sure to also supplement with magnesium, selenium, vitamin C, B complex & unrefined salt to increase iodine's bioavailability and to ensure it can proper function once acquired.

Another form, that is in pill form, is Iodoral. The smallest dose is 6.25 mg.

I recommend finding a local natural health practitioner in your area to help guide you through proper iodine supplementation.

If you have ever been diagnosed with a "hot nodule" on a thyroid scan, do not supplement with iodine.
