1 in 8 couples in the United States struggle to conceive naturally. Of those 6.7 million people, 40% are for "unknown causes." But what if it is just that western medicine is failing to assess two major factors: mineral & microbiome imbalances? Infertility "medicine" is a booming multi-million dollar industry, need I say more?
Our flora is a mixture of numerous species of bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, worms, & other creatures. They live together in a delicate balance, keeping each other "in check" & ultimately driving our state of health. Unfortunately, the ever-so-delicate balance can be disrupted easily by chemical exposure in our food, water, & everyday products, by antibiotics, prescription medicine, pathogenic viruses, mold, & even vaccines. Once our flora takes an insult, it throws our bodies into acute and chronic illnesses.
Science used to presume that the vagina & cervix were the only part of the reproductive organs to contain flora. However, this is incorrect. Our endometrial cavity, fallopian tubes, & ovaries also contain a small amount of flora as well, most common bacterial strain being Lactobacillus spp. Studies are finding that "Endometrial microbiota strongly impacted clinical outcomes during ART cycles: dysbiotic microbiota was associated with decreased implantation, pregnancy, ongoing pregnancy, and live birth rates."
It was found that "the presence of pathogenic bacteria [....] in the endometrium together with the depletion of Lactobacillus spp. is associated with impaired reproductive function." These findings are huge! The strain, Lactobacillus spp., is very common in commercial probiotics. And yes, you can simply supplement with a probiotic that specifically has this type of bacterial strain, to improve the health of your endometrial flora! The best way to consume probiotics is via fermented foods, but the author of GAPS diet, & gut guru Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, believes that no matter how you acquire probiotics, just be sure that you do.
